I spotted this floral sheet in the thrift shop the other day and fell in love. Isn’t it the cutest?
I knew I needed to bring it home and make something from it.
I wondered about snipping it into smaller pieces to make lots of little things – cushion covers, Barbie bedding etc – but decided to keep it intact and make a quilted throw for our bed.
Here’s how I did it…
I started by grabbing an old thrift shop quilt that I’d gone off the pattern of.
I laid the floral sheet on top and secured it with lots of pins.
Next, I folded the edges of the old quilt up and over the sheet, tucking in any extra bits of sheet.
The two cats were especially helpful at this point, diving onto the quilt and risking their paws on the pins. Ahem.
I then stitched around the edges. It didn’t take very long: one episode of Grand Designs.
Assisted by another hit of the delectable Kevin (only me?), I stitched buttons randomly over the centre of the quilt to secure it together.
I really love the end result and love that an old thing has been given a new lease of life!
