Hygge happy

It’s getting colder: much colder! I even dug out my scarf today. But I quite like this season, don’t you? It’s all feeling very ‘fireworks and frosty air’.

Here are my simple ideas for cosying up this autumn…

I love adding cinnamon to everything at this time of year: it just feels so warming!

Try frying banana halves in butter and cinnamon, or add it to porridge and apple for a warming breakfast.

Getting outside is so good for us – especially as the days get shorter and gloomier – so wrapping up warm is the key.

I bought this furry gilet on eBay to layer up over my hoodie and under my coat and it works a treat. With a favourite podcast playing in your earbuds under your hood, walking is a really nice way to get some gentle exercise.

I’m not sure what our neighbours make of the year-round fairy lights I’ve strung in practically every room of our house, but I just love them.

They make the kitchen feel like a hipster cafe and turn our bedroom into a pretty spot to chill.

When evening comes, I like nothing better than to curl up in my chair surrounded by cushions and throws.

And if the cat decides to climb up too, then I’m about as happy as I get!

In these days of knowing everything that’s happening everywhere – good and bad – I really value the chance to switch off and get lost in something light and life-affirming. 

And it’s super-simple for me to find books I know will hit the spot for me – I just look for those pastel colours and titles about cupcakes and/or Mr Darcy.
